  Enchanting

On the brown velvet couch while I was
telling you about whole wheat bread and
portion controls, it had gotten dark and you
said I was enchanting. From the word chant
and chains and hum and entwine and hum
again, and around you the air vibrated and
seemed to have changed so you were in
the almost dark room quite surrounded by a
light that came from  somewhere inside
both of us.

This morning when the phone
rang very early, your voice seeped
into me faster than I think I wanted to
admit,and I cried a bit in recognition.
Its deep chocolate steel caressed me
right down to those half lost, half dead
places, so far down, half  buried, that I
thought were gone.If I were a whale I
would stop and hang in the cerulean,
waiting to hear your voice again,
wanting to let the velvet bring you
back to me again.

From Deep Blue Home by Julie Whitty

" Whales produce two streams of sonar clicks, separated in time by phonic lips, integrating larynx-like structures inside their  heads, that constrict air passing through interior sinuses to vibrate surrounding tissues.Odontocetes control these vibrations with Pavarotti- like precision as the sound passes through the head into the melon( on top of the head) the less than one second delay between one ecolocational beam and its partner cancels the  frequency of sound in some regions of space while enhancing it in others, deflecting the beams to produce one wider ray of " light". To the human ear stripped of its own directional acuity in the underwater world pilot whale efficientlyecholocation sounds like a buzzing beehive in three dimensional overdrive, a nearly impenetrable wall of sound, made all the more confounding by the fact that a number of whales are ecolocating at once, producing layers of clicks as dense as white noise. For the whales however this bath of sound shines a floodlight on their world though the reflected images are not received in their eyes but in the parabolic bones of their skulls in fat deposits in the long bars of their lower jaws. The images of the sounds are also received in the ears afloat in( echoed) air spaces and fatty areas in their heads- so unlike our own ears tethered by bone to our skulls and unable to discern direction or most frequencies in water.Odontocete echolocation not only illuminates the sea, it penetrates the sea and all things in it right through to the bones"

" Angry jellyfish and a whale stir the web"

Angry jellyfish, a whale that throws itself at a boat
and a shark attacking a helicoptor all within days
of each other.
The ocean is seething my friends,
 its seething.
Inside its deep wine blue brine the trickle
of mercury has been injected.

Inside the fluted pathways the whales
remember that their blood is tainted.

The ocean is seething my loves
 its  seething.

 Luft Menschen

She said they are all luft menschen!!!
Air people, and if course she is right
but as soon as you ask its like opening
cans of tuna, serrated, oily, fishy, thick.
One son in prison, and one son dead now
just six weeks ago from manic depression,
and hes living with the sons wife and baby
"til she gets over the hump" and him calmly
on the phone trying to make a connection.
And if you were alive you would say to me
with your worldly Bronx accent, and that
tone of warm irony: where do you find these
people? Where do you find them???

A new Home

Hello all of you....
I have decided that I like the idea of a really personal blog, I welcome responses and feedback to the blogs I will post, I am going to post poetry, prose and photos of my work as I get better at this. This is a wonderful way to keep in touch, expound critique art/ poetry and whatever resonates .I had been posting my poems and visual collages on my space for a few years but its gotten so complex and so difficult to either read other blogs or to even ( recently) to respond to peoples responses that I have decided to give  this a shot.
So.... welcome to my new blog......
